April Favourites - Skincare + More!

I thought this month as I have so much to show you (and sadly I'm loving too many things!!) that I'd break my 'favourites' video into two.

The first video is a very important one - SKINCARE.

Uriage Bariederm Creme
I feel like I've discovered the Holy Grail in a way. I've never been a fan of hand creme as I've always found them to be very oily, greasy and basically just sit on top of your skin. Eww!

So, with a lot of convincing at a trade show I decided to try this creme and to my pleasant  surprise it was amazing. The creamy product when rubbed into your hands transformed into a liquid/watery texture then disappeared into my skin - gone! The formula adds a waterproof barrier and protects the epidermis which makes this ideal for anyone with skin irritation or everyday environmental stresses.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, Effaclar A.I. & Lipikar Lait

'For over 30 years, La Roche-Posay has worked with dermatologists throughout the world to invent skincare and make-up products that meet the needs and requirements of sensitive skin, by selecting leading dermatological active ingredients, associated with La Roche-Posay thermal spring water'.

They are amazing!! The three products I've been trying over the last month have definitely delivered results. As mentioned in the video, I often experience breakouts particularly around my jaw/chin area which indicates its hormonal. I cant say its acne or even pimples as such but more smaller bumps under the skin which can look rough (I loathe it!!). Anyway with the help of both the Effaclar products I certainly feel I have it under control.

The body moisturiser feels quite luxurious and very moisturising. It has left my skin feeling very supple and definitely stayed like that until the next application. This is great for drier skin and definitely an ideal winter saver.

Bioderma Sebium H20
Hello!!!! Have you not listened to me for the last 5 years - I want to marry this stuff! I have been an addict to their Bioderma Crealine H20 and decided to recently give the Sebium H20 for combination skin a go. It cleanses exceptionally well and doesn't feel like its stripping your skin of its natural 'must needed' oils. Unlike its sister product (Crealine H20) it cant be used around the eye area so please avoid that area.

Smith's Rosebud Salve Review
A cult product amongst local and international makeup artist, Smith's Rosebud Salve is a lovely scented, moisturising lip balm. Great in the cooler months to assist in replenishing all that lost moisture from the harsh environment but also ideal in summer a lovely soft gloss look. I find a lot of lip balms/ointments much of a muchness, the difference I find with this one is the texture, scent and longevity!

Shu Uemura Ultime8 Beauty Cleansing Oil

"Shu Uemura cleansing oil was developed from the knowledge that Mr. Uemura gained while working as a foremost Hollywood makeup artist in the 1950s. The Secret to Shu Uemura cleansing oil is protecting the skin's delicate balance while removing make-up and impurities in a single step."

This has fast become a favourite of mine. I love that I can cleanse my whole face with it (including eyes) at the same time. The honest truth is I'm time poor and the thought of using 17 different products kills me. The oil is gentle and cleanse makeup and impurities really well. It's a common phobia that people with oily or combination skin refrain from using this type of formula due to the fear of breaking out. I'm here to tell you its phenomenal!! You will love it.

Diptyque Rose Duet Candle
I adore nice smelly things and this is one of them. Although expensive and totally luxurious I find these candles to last, and the perfume it produces when burning is true to the scent and lingers for a long time. Even when its not burning the gorgeous smell is still in the air......

Diptyque 34 Boulevard St Germain
And finally my new love - Diptyque 34 Boulevard St Germain. Again another pricey one from the brand but with any boutique brand the product is generally inferior to all its counterparts.

'Developed around a chypre backbone, the base notes of wood and balms add comfort and create addiction. It is a rich and voluptuous fragrance which is suitable for men and women'.

The scent is dark and woody and will have everyone asking what you're wearing!'

Professional Interview Makeup!

Job interviews are absolutely nerve racking and you want to feel absolutely comfortable in every aspect. Just like preparing what you want to say I also think the makeup you wear on the day plays a huge part. No potential employer wants to see caked on makeup, massive false lashes or bright pink lipstick........unless its a particular job you're going for *wink *wink!!

Hopefully this may prepare you in the makeup  department. Keep your nails neat, clean with a soft coloured polish and dont go overboard with the jewellery!!!

Shu Uemura, Aesop & MAC Product Review!

Ive decided to do at least (I'll try!!!) one product review a a week so every third video. Let me know if thats too much!

Products reviewed:

Shu Uemura Ultime8 Subline Beauty Cleansing Oil - Ive been using this for the last 3 weeks and love it. I was a little sceptical to begin with so I was thrilled when they gave me some samples to try. Instantly my skin felt soft and clean and the fact you can remove your eye makeup with it says a lot! The one I purchased has 8 exquisite oils from botanical origin for ultimate solution to 8 skin benefits powerful yet gentle botanical origin removal system for superb cleansing. Rest assured there are several oils for different skin types.

"shu uemura cleansing oil was developed from the knowledge that mr. uemura gained while working as a foremost hollywood makeup artist in the 1950s. the secret to shu uemura cleansing oil is protecting the skin's delicate balance while removing make-up and impurities in a single step."

Aesop Rosehip Seed Lip Cream - As mentioned in my review I was sick of reapplying lip balm all day long and was in the look out for a moisturising lip cream when I came across this. The lip cream soothes and softens which is ideal in any climate. Valued at $15 you dont need to keep applying and it certainly delivers!!

MAC On The Hunt - As part of the 'Styleseeker' release this duo eye palette is beautiful. I love the colours so much and can be blended effortless. I was able to locate the names of them individually which was great  - the bronzy one is called Star Myth and the red bronze is Raving Mand.

Hope you guys enjoyed it and let me know if you have any feed back xo

The best & worst gel liners!

Im a fan, huge fan actually, of gel liners and I've had the opportunity to work with many different brands.

Those of you who follow my blog know not only do I use the gel liners to line the eye but I often use them as eyeshadows particularly when doing a dark smokey eye. They are perfect for this look as the majority of them are smudge, crease & waterproof and add depth to eyeshadow.

Having said that not all gel liners are the same and Ive even found a huge contrast in liners from the same brand. Some glide on seamlessly and have intense colour while others either look dull or dry up the minute you twist the cap to open it! Below are my favourite and not so favourite liners.

Favourites:

MAC Fluideline in Blacktrack - my absolute favourite black gel liner. This product does exactly what its supposed to. It applies beautifully, gives you a real intense black finish and will not budge or smudge all day!

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Bronze Shimmer (not sure if this colour has been replaced with Chocolate Shimmer) - I LOVE THIS LINER!! I frequently use this to create an amazing brown smokey eye but it also makes a nice liner when you want a softer outline.

Shu Uemura in G Silver- This is a lovely silver shimmer colour which is a nice alternative to a light liner. I like to use this product to highlight the inner eyes near the tear duct - just beautiful.

Not so favourite:

MAC Fluideline in Waveline - Bad, real bad if you thought this was going to give you a lovely blue colour. It applies quite transparent and you need layers to give you an intense colour. So disappointing as I love the colour.

Bobbi Brown and Shu Uemura in Black - my problem with both of these is their longevity. They dry out so quickly and they become unusable in a matter of no time.

Why a face powder?

With the glorious sun shining today and providing us with glimpse of the fine weather to come I couldn't help but notice the 'shinier' faces around me (because that's what I do!?!?)

Rest assured you need not look like an oil slick just because the temperature is rising.

Not only are face powders a fantastic addition to your makeup kit particularly in the warmer months, it also has additional benefits. Below are a few handy tips:

  • Use a soft brush to apply it all over your foundation to assist in setting.
  • If you are using a powder eyeshadow apply with a large eyeshadow brush the translucent powder over your entire eyelid. This will help you blend your eyeshadows but also absorb excess oil which funnily enough is quite a lot on your eyelids!!
  • Once you've applied your concealer under your eyes use a fluffy eyeshadow brush and set it with the powder. This will help the concealers longevity.

My absolute favourite is the Shu Uemura translucent powder which is colourless and the softest of powders.
THIS ALL COMES WITH A WORD OF WARNING

Only use powder sparingly as you will either look way too cakey or if you'll be in front of the camera and use the wrong powder you may turn out like………
